This Cuisinart GR-300WS indoor grill turns out professional sandwiches, burgers and so much more!
Like last year’s GR-4N, this new GR-300WS grill replaces many pans and becomes the convienient weekdate indoor grill options. They’ve made big improvements on the original design–adding digital temperature gauge, top and bottom sear options at 500 degrees, and more interchangeable plates.
As much as I like the new features, they come with a pretty hefty price increase. The GR-4N cost right around $100.00. The Cuisinart GR-300WS starts at just under $200.00 normally and Amazon currently has a $20.00 off coupon currently. My experience with this grill is that the $199.00 price tag is still a good value. But not every home chef needs these limitless features for everyday cooking.
- Ability to do multiple jobs inthe kitchen (not just a sandwich maker but a grill or flat griddle when opened flat).
- On board controls for top and bottom grill — although the WS-300 now boasts a more accurate digital temperature guide that goes all the way from 250 – 500 degrees. The older model would only heat to 450 degrees.
- Easy clean – both units have removable non-stick plates that are dish washer safe.
- Compact and easy to store.
- The new adjustable hinge has six preset widths to accommodate foods of varying thickness.
- 240 square inches of grilling surface when laid out flat.
- Time function plus auto shut-off after two hours (huge improvement).
- Brushed stainless steel with cast-aluminum cooking plates.
Multiple Function Grilling
The new 6-in-one grill is even more of a multitasker in the kitchen easily stepping in as a frying pan, grill pan and griddle. This Cuisinart Panini Press comes with 2 sets of plates. The first has grill bars and the other is a flat griddle area. They are easily switched to accommodate grilling hamburgers to making pancakes.
The new design allows you to customize the experience using just the bottom grill as an indoor grill, both grill plates to cook simultaneously from top and bottom, both griddle plates to make pressed sandwiches or lie it flat for a huge griddle cooking surface for making breakfast pancakes and eggs for the entire family.
Improved Adjustable Top Plates
The Cuisinart GR-4N did allow for grilling sandwiches up to 2″ with its simple hinged top. Cuisinart made a huge improvement in the grill features for the GR-300WS by completely redesigning the hinge mechanism.
The new improved adjustable hinge has six preset angles and can accommodate breads and sandwiches up to 4 inches thick. Because it can open so wide — in 1/2-inch increments — you can grill open-faced sandwiches using the heat from the top element without touching the top layer.
Customers who purchased the earlier models complained that the grill plates were fastened with plastic clips that could melt and malfunction on the old units. Those are gone! The newly designed hinge mechanism is metal to withstand the heat and easily adjustable with just a flip of the switch. With this model you’ll be able to make those professional sandwiches on French bread, baguettes, focaccia or Texas toast.
Flexible Temperature Control
The temperature control and even the temperature range is another huge improvement in the new Cuisinart Grill. The Cuisinart GR-300WS features a digital display for both top and bottom elements. There is a top and bottom sear feature that quickly heats to 500 degrees for caramelizing grill marks into steaks, burgers, fish or chicken breasts.
For safety purposes this new unit finally includes a timer feature and automatically shuts off after two hours!
The panini grill plates (as well as the griddle plates) are made of hard cast non-stick aluminum for even heat distribution. They are BPA-free and non-toxic. The grill and griddle plates are all cast-aluminum covered in thick non-stick coating. During initial usage you’ll want to use a little cooking spray or oil especially on the waffle plates and grill plates. But in the event you experience minor sticking, the unit comes with a cleaning tool and the detachable plates can be pre-soaked and placed into the bottom dishwasher racks.
Anyone looking to buy a griddle considers the cleaning features. The removable grill plates on the Cuisinart 300-WS are completely removable and can be washed in warm soapy water OR put directly into the lower rack of the dishwasher. There is a removable grease drain and receptical under the plates that also removes for easy clean up.
Warranty and Service
The Cuisinart GR-300WS comes with a healthy 3-year warranty provided by the manufacturer.
